Update on Alex - 1/18/2012
Alex has settled into his new room in Memphis.  All "newcomers" are placed into the four person ward just across from the nurse's station.  The ward is very roomy so he doesn't expect any problems from overcrowding.

So far the food is an improvement over that served at Augusta.  This has helped to keep him in a good frame of mind.  He continues to anxiously await his daily sessions with his various therapists.

After almost seven months spent in four different hospitals, he is anticipating the possibility of discharge in the next few months so that he can spend time in Franklin with Linda.  However, the Memphis VA facility will continue to be a fixture in his life for some years to come.

Alex is, of course, very grateful for all of the cards and letters he has received while in the hospital.  However, correspondence that has come to the hospital has not always been prompt in reaching him.  He requests that any correspondence that you wish to send be sent to glenfinnan@earthlink.net.  Linda will pick them up each week and see that they are delivered to him.  This will also allow them to share your love and sentiments.

A personal message from Alex for the New Year
"Happy New Year!  As we start 2012, I recently relocated to my fourth hospital in six months for rehabilitation.  I am currently at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN.  It's great to be back in my chosen state closer to my home in Franklin and less of a strain on my lovely wife, Linda.  Her travel from Franklin to Memphis is less than half the distance to Augusta enabling her to visit with me every weekend.

"With the recent holiday and shortage of staff, I have not been evaluated to determine my present condition.  (This is the first thing that has been done every time I have relocated and is standard procedure for patients new to the hospital.)  Hopefully, I will have a family conference in the near future that will determine how long I can expect to stay at this facility before heading home to beautiful Franklin.  I am hopeful and optimistic that with my best effort and the skill of the therapists I will make good progress in 2012 and recover much of my abilities.

"Since my injury on July 2, I have received thousands of get well cards and emails from around the world conveying prayer, love and support for my recovery.  I am humbled by how many people's lives I have touched in my career.  I am also grateful for the many gifts of flowers I have received and the most scrumptious gourmet meals cooked and brought to me at the VA Hospital in Augusta.  The meals were a most welcome feast from what was otherwise my tasteless daily fare.

"I am truly blessed to have such wonderful fans, friends and family to help to inspire me to work as hard as I can to recover from this devastating injury.  It is impossible to personally thank each and every one of you by name in the space I have here.  However, there is one person to whom I need to give my special thanks.  Since that fateful night in July, my lovely wife, Linda, has been at my side fighting for me.  The outpouring of her love is my greatest comfort and, truly, I could not wish for a better partner in this life.  When I feel the least bit discouraged, Linda always has a positive comment, a touch or even just a smile that inspires me and keeps me on track so that I will never give up and I will ultimately beat this injury.

"It is my sincere wish that 2012 brings each of you joy, peace, happiness, good health and, most of all, love."

On A Personal Note:
As most of you already know, Alex suffered a severe spinal cord injury early this summer.   Alex has spent the better part of four decades not only sharing his love of Scottish music and history with us, but also devoting his time and talent appearing in more "fund-raising events" for various worthwhile causes than even he can remember.  Well, at this time, Alex and his amazing wife Linda, could use your kind assistance and generosity in the form of a contribution to help defer the staggering medical expenses they are now facing.  This type of injury can often take years of therapy in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities as well as home nursing care.  Through his music, Alex has given so many people so much pleasure that, if there's any truth left in that old country adage "what goes around, comes around" then Alex and Linda will be just fine.

If you wish to help defer some of Alex's medical expenses, kindly send your contribution to:
